In 1998 there wasn't much known about PCOS. I will never forget having the internet at my fingertips to research my symptoms. The fatigue of PCOS is unlike any other, the pain, and side effects are constant. This blog is not going to focus on what PCOS is. If you're here you probably are online looking for answers to your health. It's been almost 20 years since I discovered the truth and far fewer years of medical help. Five years ago, I decided it was time to change everything and get healthy so that the medical industry could no longer benefit financially from my condition. The bandaids were coming off.
As I was getting started in my workout today and feeling amazingly energetic I decided it was time to share this new journey. I've taken a 4 prong approach for 5 years that had helped. Now, I'm focusing strictly on getting those prongs of health right: sleep/stress, nutrition, exercise, and supplementation. Yes! I said it! Supplementation!
This first month has been testing. It didn't take long for my carb craving to subside. I actually enjoy the keto way of eating (WOE) it's so yummy. I have learned to switch gears and buy foods that replace carbs. I haven't eaten pork in 4 years because I thought it was healthy not to and now I'm questioning that.
I like to focus on these because scale victories with PCOS seem few and far between.
Bloat. The bloat is decreasing. My grandmother always had a gut they looked like a lady about to give birth. I started seeing this in myself. I thought it was from dairy. I thought wrong. Since cutting out wheat products the bloat is disappearing quickly and therefore inches are decreasing. I did not take measurements when I started but 2 weeks in I did and 2 weeks later I am down 8.5". I'm approaching almost 1 foot of me gone.
My clothes are more comfortable. A little more breathing room in my jeans. My size 14's are going up and buttoned. Mind you, there was a time when I owned and wore a size 22.
Hunger doesn't equal Hangry.
Grocery bill decreased because I eat less.
My my joints hurt less and inflammation is subsiding.
My recovery time after working out decreased.
I'm down 6lbs with working out.
Would like to see smaller numbers? Yes!
Am I happy with the progress over all? Absolutely!
I have so much to share in the future about what I'm learning about PCOS and how this diet is changing everything!
